Algorand names William Herkelrath chief executive as Staci Warden steps down
The Algorand Foundation has appointed William Herkelrath as its new CEO, effective August 31, 2026. He succeeds Staci Warden, who led the foundation for nearly five years, as Algorand sharpens its focus on institutional adoption and post-quantum security.
A New Chief for Algorand
The Algorand Foundation has appointed William Herkelrath as its new chief executive officer, the @AlgoFoundation announced on September 9. Herkelrath officially became Algorand's chief executive on August 31. He succeeds Staci Warden, who is stepping down after nearly five years leading Algorand.
Herkelrath brings two decades of experience across AI, enterprise software, institutional finance, and blockchain infrastructure, most recently as co-founder of K3 Labs, an AI-first automation platform, and previously in leadership roles at Chainlink and Curv.
Warden was appointed CEO in February 2022 and oversaw a significant period of development for the network, including the foundation's relocation from Singapore to the United States earlier this year.
Board Changes and Strategic Direction
Alongside the leadership transition, Algorand also announced changes to its board of directors. Herkelrath and Alex Fowler, chief strategy officer at Nexus Laboratories, are joining the board, and Rebecca Rettig and Michael Mosier are departing.
The appointment comes as the blockchain organization seeks to expand its institutional business and position its technology against emerging quantum-computing threats. The blockchain already has post-quantum accounts active in production, backed by Falcon-1024, a lattice-based signature scheme.
The $ALGO token was trading at around $0.10 on the day of the announcement, up modestly on the day, according to market data.
