Coinbase Powers Bitwise's new tokenized product
Bitwise has launched Automated Token Portfolios, branded as Strats, built on Coinbase tokenized stocks and powered by the Glider protocol. Eligible non-US investors can mirror professionally managed index strategies while keeping self-custody of their assets.
Bitwise Brings Institutional Index Strategies Onchain
Bitwise Asset Management has launched what it calls Automated Token Portfolios, branded internally as Strats, giving eligible investors outside the United States access to professionally managed, thematic equity strategies running entirely onchain. Eligible investors outside the US can now hold an investment strategy designed and managed by Bitwise, issued on @Coinbase tokenized stocks, and rebalanced in their own wallet by Glider.
Bitwise, which held $9 billion in client assets as of July 1, 2026, has built the first Strats on Coinbase tokenized US stocks, available through the Glider platform. The debut strategy is a "Mag 7" basket that includes high-growth names in AI, robotics, and space technology.
Having a professional manager run a strategy has historically meant buying into a pooled vehicle and handing over assets. With a Strat, the manager still runs the strategy while the investor retains the assets. Bitwise builds the strategy and decides what it holds and at what weights. @Coinbase issues each holding as a tokenized US stock, backed 1:1 by real shares with full shareholder rights.
How the Infrastructure Works
The product sits on top of @Coinbase's recently launched tokenized stock infrastructure on Base, its Ethereum layer-2 network. Coinbase launched tokenized US stocks on Base, starting with Apple, Nvidia, Meta, and Alphabet shares for investors outside the US. The stock tokens are issued under Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) regulation, where Coinbase recently established its international tokenization hub.
Glider handles the automation layer. Unlike traditional ETFs, which bundle assets into fixed products, Glider lets users hold index-like portfolios with custom weightings that are automatically maintained and rebalanced, without requiring users to execute transactions manually. The methodology access fee is set at 0.15% for eligible investors.
Coinbase tokenized stocks and Bitwise Strats are available only to persons in eligible jurisdictions outside the United States. For investors outside the US, owning a portfolio of large US companies has usually meant navigating a US broker, currency conversion costs, or no access at all. Holding a Strat requires no US residency, no US bank account, and no US brokerage account.
The launch arrives as the broader tokenized equities market gains momentum. The market for tokenized stocks has reached roughly $2.48 billion in value, up 5.2% over the past month, with monthly transfer volume of $27.28 billion and more than 2.1 million holders, according to RWA.xyz data. Citigroup has estimated the tokenized securities market could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030.
