Cardano rallies to one-month high while holder count keeps slipping
Cardano's ADA token hit $0.195 for the first time since July 4, posting a 24% weekly market cap gain per Santiment, even as total wallet count edges lower and retail remains on the sidelines.
ADA Posts One-Month High as Whales Absorb Supply
@Cardano's native token $ADA printed $0.195 on August 4, its highest level since July 4, with market cap up 24% on the week according to on-chain analytics firm Santiment. The move makes Cardano one of the cleaner standouts in an otherwise choppy altcoin period, with most peers struggling to hold momentum.
The wallet picture tells a more nuanced story. Large holders added more than 240 million ADA in five days, pushing whale holdings near 14.5 billion ADA, according to Santiment data. Yet the total non-empty wallet count now sits at 4.62 million, roughly 7,070 fewer than two months ago. The divergence points to stronger hands absorbing available supply while sidelined retail participants have yet to return in size.
A Santiment update from mid-July shows wallets holding between 100,000 and 100 million ADA now control over 25.6 billion ADA, the highest level since February 2023, while retail addresses with under 100 ADA cut holdings by about 0.7% over the past four months. That supply dynamic tightens the float available on order books, which can amplify moves when broader market sentiment shifts.
Development Momentum Builds Across the Ecosystem
The price rebound is arriving alongside a concentrated stretch of technical progress. The Musashi Dojo testnet launched on June 23, marking the first time Ouroboros Leios has run on a live public test network rather than a local simulation. The mainnet hard fork is targeting November 2026.
Mithril and Hydra also advanced during the period, with Mithril's zero-knowledge proof work moving from prototype to testnet, and Hydra shipping two node releases carrying partial fanout and a simplified head-opening protocol. The Pyth Network has also launched on Cardano, offering ecosystem projects one year of free, unlimited access to a Pyth Pro API key. On the funding side, Project Catalyst is set to restart in August with a new funding pool of 2 million ADA.
Collectively, these technical milestones reinforce Cardano's long-term development roadmap and may be contributing to renewed investor confidence and ADA's market-leading performance. Whether retail participation follows the whales back into the market remains the key question heading into the second half of August.
