First Live On-Chain Rail Between Cardano and Injective
Cardano and Injective have switched on a live Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) connection on testnet, marking a notable step toward trustless cross-chain interoperability between the two networks. The connection establishes the first direct, on-chain rail for native, bidirectional transfers of ADA ($ADA) and INJ ($INJ) without relying on third-party custodial bridges.
Injective confirmed the milestone by calling itself the first chain with a live rail to Cardano built on the IBC protocol. The Cardano Foundation followed, confirming the same testnet milestone. The connection currently operates in a test environment, giving developers room to trial asset transfers and cross-network messaging before any mainnet deployment.
The integration leverages IBC's security model, which uses each chain's light clients instead of external validators. It also lets developers examine applications that exchange information across the networks, with IBC providing a common communication standard that reduces the need to build a separate bridge or messaging system for every application.
What Comes Next
The Cardano Foundation has published a guide showing developers how to transfer test ADA between Cardano's preproduction network and Injective's testnet. Both teams say they plan to expand the integration to mainnet in the future, though no specific timeline has been announced.
The development is viewed as a critical step toward secure interoperability with the Cosmos ecosystem and over 115 other chains, potentially unlocking new liquidity and use cases. Injective is a Cosmos-based chain built for trading, derivatives, and other finance-focused applications.
The IBC testnet link arrives as Cardano pushes forward on multiple fronts. The network is preparing its next major hard fork, the Dijkstra era, which will introduce Nested Transactions, Linear Leios, and Peras, targeting improvements to throughput, transaction finality, and resource management, with the first two phases expected by the end of 2026.
