A Memecoin With Robinhood's Origin Story

Cash Cat (@cashcat_token) surged more than 65% in the past 24 hours and has roughly doubled over the last seven days, according to CoinGecko. The token's market capitalization has climbed to nearly $72 million, though it remains about 67% below its all-time high despite the recent rebound.

The catalyst, according to independent social media posts, was a reference to the token by Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev during a livestream. BSC News has not independently verified that claim. What is documented, however, is context that gives the token an unusually direct connection to Robinhood's corporate history.

CASHCAT traces back to the company's own lore: Tenev and co-founder Baiju Bhatt originally called their company CashCat before settling on the Robinhood name. The token launched as a fan-made tribute, not an official Robinhood project.

Tenev's On-Record Position and What Followed

Robinhood Chain launched its public mainnet on July 1, 2026, as an Ethereum Layer 2 built on Arbitrum technology. The chain was pitched primarily as infrastructure for tokenized real-world assets. On July 2, Tenev told CNBC that "an asset not tied to an underlying utility is not a productive asset," framing real-world assets as the durable direction.

Six days later, as CASHCAT climbed toward a nine-figure market cap on his own chain, Tenev posted that "while the company is building Robinhood Chain to be the best chain for real-world assets, it works great for memes too," and followed the token's account. The project has no official affiliation with Robinhood, based on market reports.

CASHCAT reached an all-time high of $0.2252 on July 12, 2026, before a steep correction of roughly 77%. The token briefly surpassed a $200 million market cap in mid-July but has since traded in a much lower range. The latest move higher represents a partial recovery, with market cap back near $72 million per CoinGecko data cited in the original report. Traders should note that memecoins of this type carry significant volatility risk and the token's contract remains unverified.
