CZ Sees Tokenization Changing How Countries Attract Global Investment
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao says tokenized stocks could help countries attract foreign investment across all blockchains, as BNB Chain reports its RWA holders surged 370% in 30 days to reach 776,000.
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (@cz_binance) has renewed his push for widespread asset tokenization, arguing that putting stocks on-chain is one of the most effective ways for governments and companies to raise capital and draw in foreign investment.
Tokenization as a Capital Markets Tool
Zhao called for broader tokenization of assets including stocks, describing it as "one of the best ways" for countries to raise funds or attract foreign direct investment. He argued that countries tokenizing equities can attract worldwide buyers, while national stablecoins expand local currency usage on the blockchain.
Zhao said he supports tokenization on all blockchains rather than limiting it to a specific network. While critics have raised concerns about fragmented liquidity across chains, he believes stronger interoperability between issuers could connect otherwise separate markets. He shared the recommendations after meeting several country leaders and regulators across Asia, describing the talks as making good progress but declining to name the countries involved.
Tokenization could allow governments to raise funds by selling blockchain-based fractional ownership of state-owned assets like infrastructure, real estate, or commodities. The broader market is already moving in that direction. Tokenized real-world assets on public blockchains topped $32 billion by mid-2026, up from about $6 billion a year earlier, according to RWA.xyz data. Boston Consulting Group projects the market for tokenized assets could reach $16 trillion by 2030, driven by demand for faster settlement and broader investor access.
BNB Chain RWA Growth Accelerates
Zhao's comments come as his broader ecosystem reports a sharp uptick in on-chain adoption. @BNBCHAIN says its RWA holders have reached 776,000, up roughly 370% in 30 days. On BNB Chain, the RWA portfolio includes tokenized treasuries, equities, and other traditional financial instruments that have been brought on-chain. Tokenized US Treasury bonds and equities led the surge, with major contributions from Circle, BlackRock, and Ondo.
BNB Chain has positioned itself as an ecosystem focused on compliant asset issuance and liquidity trading. The growth aligns with a wider trend across the industry. After years of flat activity through late 2024, on-chain data shows an explosive growth curve sharply accelerating into 2026, with RWAs emerging as a key reason institutions come on-chain in the first place.
For Zhao, the momentum reinforces a thesis he has been building across sovereign conversations globally. He is currently advising around a dozen governments on crypto regulation and asset tokenization, while also pursuing personal projects including a free education platform and an investment firm.
