Fake World Assets (@token_works), the Ethereum-based NFT gacha protocol that briefly ranked as the network's largest gas consumer in late July, is expanding into new territory with a launchpad feature called FWAir, designed to bring entirely new NFT collections onto the platform.

TokenWorks will let artists launch new NFT collections directly into Fake World Assets' randomized pool through FWAir, extending the two-person team's protocol from trading existing NFTs to issuing new ones. Under the model, creators set a price per NFT and supporters back each one with that amount of $ETH. Collections that reach their funding target launch directly into the FWA pool, while backers receive refunds if the target is missed.

A protocol with momentum behind it

The announcement comes after a rapid rise for the underlying protocol. Within four days of launch, FWAs consumed enough Ethereum gas that they briefly became the chain's largest gas consumer by fees over a 24-hour period. At its peak on July 25, FWAs generated approximately $1.53 million in daily fees, leapfrogging Tether and Circle to briefly rank among Ethereum's biggest consumers of blockspace.

TVL climbed to over $6.15 million by July 31, while fee revenue eased to around $350,000 per day, equating to an annualized run rate of roughly $268 million. By August 1, FWA had seen 10,000 $ETH in volume and 100,000 purchases.

Fake World Assets was built by developers known as Adam (@Rhynotic) and Teto (@tetonotsorry), who say the project is self-funded. The protocol runs what it calls a "loss-to-earn" system, where users who deposit funds and do not win can still earn compensation through emissions of the $FWA token.

Artist onboarding and first launch

Adam, the TokenWorks co-founder known as @Rhynotic on X, announced the FWAir design and said the first launch is expected this week. Artist onboarding will begin through a direct approval process, keeping early access selective as the team tests the new format.

FWAir marks a meaningful shift for the protocol. Rather than relying solely on existing NFT holders depositing assets into the pool, it opens a path for new collections to enter the ecosystem from day one, funded by the community rather than through a traditional mint.

Analysts remain divided over whether the protocol can sustain user activity once token incentives decline, but the FWAir launchpad gives TokenWorks a new growth lever as it looks to deepen the range of assets available in the pool.
