@Grayscale has completed its Q2 2026 portfolio rebalancing across three thematic funds, with changes effective as of the August 3 market close. The headline move is a major one: $BNB has entered the firm's Smart Contract Fund (GSC) and immediately taken the top spot.

BNB Takes the Lead in the Smart Contract Fund

The Q2 2026 rebalance placed $BNB at the top of the Grayscale Smart Contract Fund with a 30.6% weighting, making it the single largest holding in the fund. That puts it narrowly ahead of $ETH at 29.47% and $SOL at 29.15%. To fund the addition, Grayscale trimmed existing positions proportionally, resulting in modest reductions to both ETH and SOL allocations. For context, the Q1 2026 snapshot had ETH leading at 30.14% and SOL at 29.69%, with BNB absent from the fund entirely.

The allocation decisions follow the CoinDesk Smart Contract Platform Select Capped Index methodology, which governs which assets qualify and how weights are determined based on liquidity and custody eligibility. This is not a discretionary bet by Grayscale; it is a rules-based outcome driven by BNB meeting the index's inclusion criteria.

DeFi Fund Pivots Toward Yield-Focused Assets

The DeFi Fund (DEFG) also saw notable changes this quarter. Proceeds from a reduction in $UNI were redistributed into newer yield-focused assets, with $ONDO set at 25.44% and $ENA at 12.19%. The moves reflect growing institutional appetite for on-chain treasury and structured yield protocols. UNI retained a position in the fund but at a reduced weight of approximately 34.16%. This quarter's rebalance also touched a third fund, the Decentralized AI Fund, marking an expansion from the two funds Grayscale had adjusted in prior quarters.

Taken together, the Q2 2026 changes signal a meaningful rotation within Grayscale's thematic products: BNB gains its first top-weighted position in the Smart Contract Fund, while the DeFi portfolio tilts further toward real-world yield and tokenised finance assets.
