Apple's new CEO John Ternus joins X on his first day and posts a single word
Apple's new CEO John Ternus marked his first day in charge with a single 'hello' post on X, drawing over 21 million views and replies from crypto projects including BNB Chain, OKX, and Polymarket.
John Ternus wasted no time making his presence felt online. On his first day as Apple's chief executive, the @johnternus account went public on X with a single post: "hello." Within hours, it had passed 21 million views, and @elonmusk had responded with a "Congrats!"
A New Face at the Top of Apple
Ternus, previously Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, became the company's next chief executive effective September 1, 2026, with Tim Cook moving to executive chairman of the board. A mechanical engineer, Ternus has worked at Apple for 25 years, most recently overseeing production of the company's computers, phones, and gadgets. Under Cook, Apple grew from a $350 billion company to a $4 trillion behemoth.
Cook, who stayed on through the summer to work alongside Ternus, took the executive chairman seat, with a brief that includes engaging policymakers around the world. In an emotional memo to staff, Cook thanked the Apple community and said he would miss leading the company but felt confident handing over the role to Ternus.
Crypto Accounts Pile Into the Replies
The post quickly became a magnet for the crypto industry. @BNBCHAIN greeted him with "Hey Apple," @okx used the moment to promote a crypto app, and @Polymarket chimed in with a simple "hi." Even @Smith_WessonInc joined the thread, asking Ternus to restore the gun emoji to Apple's platform.
The social debut sets an informal tone for a CEO who will face far weightier tasks almost immediately. Apple has confirmed its next iPhone event for September 9, carrying the tagline "Surprise and shine." The event is expected to see Apple announce the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone that could be called the iPhone Ultra. It will be Ternus's first product keynote as chief executive, and a significant early test of his public presence as the new face of the world's most valuable technology company.
