PUMP climbs against a red market as buybacks roll on

$PUMP holds gains while the broader market slips

$PUMP traded near $0.0048 on August 26, up about 6% over 24 hours, even as most of the top 100 tokens sat in the red and the global crypto market cap slipped roughly 1%, per CoinMarketCap data. On the week, the token is up nearly 56%, pushing its market cap to approximately $1.87 billion.

The move stands out against a sluggish backdrop for altcoins. Pump.fun has been outperforming the global cryptocurrency market, which was up around 19% over the past seven days, according to CoinGecko. The token has climbed steadily since finding a floor earlier in the summer, with traders pointing to a consistent structural bid from the platform itself as a key support factor.

Buyback-and-burn program fuels demand

The rally has run alongside @Pumpfun's revenue-funded repurchase program. Pump.fun, the leading Solana-based meme coin launchpad, has permanently burned approximately $370 million worth of $PUMP tokens previously repurchased on the open market, eliminating roughly 36% of the token's circulating supply. The platform announced a restructured program under which 50% of its revenue is directed to repurchases, with all acquired tokens burned immediately.

According to the official $PUMP token page, half of every dollar Pump.fun earns is used to buy $PUMP on the open market and burn it permanently. Annualized revenue runs at roughly $403 million, or about $1.11 million per day on a 90-day average basis, with total buybacks and burns exceeding $437 million and 162 billion $PUMP tokens destroyed since launch.

Platform revenue covers bonding curve activity, PumpSwap, and Terminal revenue across Solana, Base, Ethereum, and BNB, net of referral fees. As of April 28, 2026, 50% of that revenue is programmatically locked and allocated to be burned for one year.

The scale of the program is notable even by traditional finance standards. Buyback programs, while common in stock markets, are used far less frequently in the cryptocurrency and decentralized finance sectors. Critics have questioned whether the program primarily benefits insiders, noting that early holders sitting on large token allocations could sell into the sustained bid. The platform has acknowledged that buybacks may be adjusted or discontinued outside the currently programmed commitment.
