Sei Network Accelerates Deployment Of "Sei Giga" Infrastructure Upgrade
Sei Network is pushing forward with its Sei Giga upgrade, as SIP-3 and Eidos storage improvements go live on mainnet ahead of the Ares execution update and the Autobahn consensus overhaul, targeting 200,000 TPS and sub-400ms finality.
SIP-3 and Eidos Go Live as Giga Rollout Begins
@SeiNetwork is accelerating the rollout of its most ambitious technical overhaul to date. The Sei Giga upgrade, designed to push the network toward 200,000 transactions per second (TPS) with sub-400ms finality, is now moving from blueprint to live deployment.
According to Sei Labs, the v6.6 mainnet upgrade officially deployed the first two architectural pillars of the Giga plan: the Ares execution engine and the Eidos storage engine. Ares becomes the default execution path on upgraded validator nodes, replacing the legacy Go-native v2 engine with an EVMC-backed framework to reduce contract processing times and eliminate internal bottlenecks. Eidos, meanwhile, separates EVM state history from Cosmos state into a dedicated database, removing the storage constraints that would otherwise prevent the execution layer from operating at Giga-level speeds.
SIP-3, the governance-approved proposal to transition Sei from a dual Cosmos and EVM stack to a fully EVM-only chain, is running in parallel. Sei Labs describes SIP-3 as the weight-reduction phase of the upgrade, stripping hundreds of thousands of lines of Cosmos and CosmWasm code from the protocol to allow the network to scale more efficiently.
Autobahn Consensus Remains the Final Milestone
The Giga upgrade is structured around three distinct layers: storage (Eidos), execution (Ares), and consensus (Autobahn). With Ares and Eidos now active on mainnet, Autobahn remains the largest component still ahead. Autobahn introduces a multi-proposer consensus design that allows several validators to propose blocks simultaneously, replacing the single-proposer model and unlocking the throughput gains that Giga promises at a foundational level.
The phased approach means the network remains live throughout the transition. Sei Labs confirmed that the Eidos migration runs alongside existing storage systems with no downtime required, and the Ares rollback mechanism allows individual transactions to revert to the legacy engine if edge cases arise, ensuring continuity without compromising block production.
Together, these upgrades represent a comprehensive architectural shift rather than an incremental performance tweak. The network previously supported a throughput range of roughly 5,000 to 12,500 TPS. The Giga target of 200,000 TPS represents a step-change in capacity aimed at supporting high-frequency trading, autonomous application deployment, and on-chain activity at institutional scale.
