A long-time member of the Shiba Inu community has pushed back against growing claims that Shibarium, the project's layer-2 network, has been effectively abandoned.

The community figure, known as Mazrael, responded after K9 Finance, the largest DeFi protocol on Shibarium by daily active users, announced it was winding down and migrating its token KNINE to Base. K9 Finance's developers referenced issues following a reported Shibarium hack in September 2025, claiming inconsistent performance and unreliable access to the network and its blockchain explorer, and describing it as currently unreliable.

What the Data Shows

Mazrael challenged those assertions directly, emphasising that Shibarium remains active and supported by functioning infrastructure, including validators, archive nodes, and ongoing chain activity. He also pointed to live Chainlink CCIP connections as evidence of continued development, noting that CCIP lanes with all major chains are live and that people are still building on the network.

Part of the confusion stems from a technical reset of the network's block explorer. ShibariumScan is currently experiencing a reset with 49% of blocks indexed, which may affect the current transaction count on the chain. The explorer also shifted from direct server pointing to a proxied configuration through Cloudflare, compounding the appearance of disruption.

K9 Finance Exit Does Not Equal Network Shutdown

After exhausting all reasonable recovery, remediation, and negotiation paths, KNINE holders voted to sunset all Shibarium-based products. K9 Finance lost over $700,000 in KNINE tokens alongside stolen ETH, SHIB, LEASH, ROAR, and TREAT in the September incident. Approximately 25% of the total KNINE supply was removed from the bridge and remains unrecovered, leaving the Shibarium deployment economically impaired and under-collateralised.

Mazrael distinguished between the sunset of K9 Finance and the overall status of Shibarium, underlining that the closure of an individual project does not equate to the layer-2 itself being wound down. Since K9 Finance's dissolution, all related liquidity and the KNINE token have been moved to Base, a layer-2 network built on Ethereum and supported by Coinbase.
