TRON just moved to a more EVM-compatible environment
TRON's GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 (Pyrrho) upgrade, activated via Committee Proposal No. 107, brings Ethereum Prague and Osaka compatibility to the TRX network, adding the CLZ opcode, historical block hash lookups, and native secp256r1 Passkey support.
Committee Proposal No. 107 Takes Effect
@Trondao has executed Committee Proposal No. 107, activating the GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 protocol upgrade, codenamed Pyrrho, on the $TRX mainnet. Voting on the proposal began on August 25, 2026, with an activation target of August 28, 2026, at 14:00 SGT. TRON committee proposals are decided through stake-weighted voting by the network's elected Super Representatives, and if the required approval is secured, the upgrade becomes active without requiring additional action from regular TRX holders.
The proposal incorporates features associated with Ethereum's Prague and Osaka upgrades into the GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 release. The goal is to keep TRON's virtual machine aligned with Ethereum tooling so that developers can port and run familiar smart-contract workloads, reducing the work of porting applications and keeping TRON's tooling within reach of the wider EVM ecosystem.
What the Upgrade Actually Changes
Proposal 107 introduces several changes to the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM). Historical block hash queries will allow smart contracts to access data from earlier blocks without relying on additional workarounds. The proposal also introduces the CLZ opcode, designed to improve the efficiency of certain mathematical operations used in smart contract code.
The TVM has also been made more compatible with Ethereum's Pectra and Osaka upgrades through the addition of a new precompiled function for secp256r1 digital signature verification. This is particularly relevant for consumer-facing applications: the built-in secp256r1 instruction enables biometric Passkey verification, lowering friction for retail onboarding on the $TRX network. The focus of this precompile is creating a contract for the secp256r1 curve, increasing efficiency and reducing computational costs.
TRON hosts a large share of stablecoin activity, so its upgrades carry outsize operational weight for the wallets, exchanges, and indexers that depend on the network. These improvements aim to facilitate the migration of Ethereum-based applications to the TRON network and enhance the developer experience.
