Biggest Single-Day Bitcoin ETF Inflow Since May

U.S. spot $BTC ETFs recorded $517.19 million in net inflows on Aug. 19, their largest single-day total since May 4, more than three months prior. Eight of the 12 spot Bitcoin ETFs posted positive flows, according to SoSoValue data.

BlackRock's IBIT led the session with $284.7 million in net inflows. Ark and 21Shares' ARKB followed with $77.7 million, and Fidelity's FBTC attracted $62.4 million.

Analysts attributed the inflows to the surprise crypto market rally driven by the U.S. Treasury Department's buyback expansion announcement. The flows confirmed the demand that drove Bitcoin above $69,000 and ether up 18% to around $2,250 in a broad rally.

BlackRock Dominance and Broader Market Context

BlackRock's IBIT continues to dominate the spot Bitcoin ETF landscape, with the concentration of capital suggesting investors are prioritizing liquidity, brand recognition, and operational scale when allocating to crypto through traditional brokerage accounts.

Wednesday's total extended a positive flow streak to three consecutive trading days, a turnaround after U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs shed roughly $390 million during the previous trading week, with Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC among the biggest sources of outflows.

The recovery comes after a difficult stretch in which spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $5.4 billion in net outflows during the first half of 2026, their first negative half-year since the products launched in early 2024. A seven-session inflow streak in July had briefly restored confidence, collecting nearly $1 billion, but snapped abruptly on July 24 with a single-day outflow of $225.18 million.

Analysts cautioned that sustained inflows at this magnitude depend on whether the Treasury's buyback strategy proves ongoing rather than a one-off move, with CPI data and commentary from Treasury Secretary Bessent cited as key factors to watch.
