Cardano's on-chain DEX volume is heating up
Cardano ADA on-chain DEX volume rose 37.5% to $90M over 30 days, with derivatives trading at $131.5M, even as total value locked slips to $70.2M.
Trading Activity Picks Up, But the Picture Is Mixed
Cardano ($ADA) is showing renewed signs of on-chain activity. DEX volume for the network climbed to $90.0M over the past 30 days, a 37.5% increase from the prior period. Derivatives and perpetuals trading outpaced spot activity, reaching $131.5M over the same window, pointing to growing demand from more active traders within the ecosystem.
Protocols including Minswap, WingRiders, and Liqwid continue to anchor the bulk of on-chain volume, according to data tracked by DefiLlama. The uptick in perps activity in particular suggests that speculative interest in the Cardano ecosystem has not entirely faded, even as the token price remains under pressure.
$ADA is currently trading at $0.173, up around 5% from a month ago. However, the token is still 9% lower than it was a week ago and remains 81% below where it traded at the same point last year. ADA hit a peak of $1.21 in December 2024, boosted in part by optimism around pro-crypto legislation in the United States, and has declined steadily since.
TVL Tells a Harder Story
While trading volumes are ticking higher, total value locked (TVL) on Cardano continues to contract. TVL has fallen to $70.2M, a sharp retreat from a 13-month high of $437.2M reached in August 2025, representing an 84% decline from that peak.
DeFiLlama data shows Cardano's TVL has been trending lower, with stablecoins accounting for the bulk of remaining locked value. Among individual protocols, Dano Finance leads with $14.15M in TVL, followed by Minswap at $13.18M and Liqwid at $12.36M.
Despite years of ecosystem development, Cardano still trails the industry's leading smart contract platforms by a wide margin. Ethereum currently secures $41.32B in TVL, while Solana hosts $4.78B.
The divergence between rising trading volume and falling TVL is notable. It may reflect short-term speculative rotation rather than a structural increase in ecosystem liquidity. Whether the volume momentum can translate into sustained TVL recovery remains the key question for Cardano's DeFi outlook in the months ahead.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has remained publicly optimistic. Hoskinson identified RealFi as the ecosystem's strongest candidate to push TVL toward $1B within 12 months, arguing the project could attract new capital by connecting blockchain-based finance with real-world economic activity.
