Circle's CCTP V2 goes live on Aptos

@circle has activated Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 (CCTP V2) on Aptos, upgrading the burn-and-mint standard that moves native $USDC between blockchains. The deployment, confirmed on Wednesday by @AptosLabs, replaces the V1 integration that was already live on the $APT network and brings Aptos in line with the broader V2 rollout across more than a dozen chains.

What CCTP V2 adds to Aptos

The upgrade delivers two headline capabilities. Fast Transfers offer settlement in as little as 8 to 20 seconds, compared to 13 or more minutes for standard finality on earlier versions. Alongside that, Hooks allow developers to automate post-transfer actions on the destination blockchain, unlocking programmable cross-chain experiences. Practical use cases include automating asset swaps or managing treasury operations directly on the destination chain.

The underlying burn-and-mint mechanism burns native USDC on a source blockchain and mints fresh USDC on the destination chain, removing the wrapped-token custody risk associated with third-party bridges. The Aptos deployment retains the same developer surface as other V2 chains and includes relay support, targeting treasury management, liquidity movement, and trading applications.

Context: V1 phase-out and wider rollout

CCTP V2 had been live on all V1-supported chains except Aptos, Noble, and Sui, with Circle planning to extend support by mid-2026. The Aptos activation marks a step toward completing that expansion. By designating CCTP V2 as the canonical standard, Circle is aligning the ecosystem on a single, more powerful protocol that can scale to meet the needs of developers and the applications they are building.

CCTP V1, now designated a legacy version, is limited to standard transfer functionality only. It will remain active on its current supported blockchains but will receive no new chain integrations or feature updates, with its phase-out commencing on July 31, 2026.

Across both versions, CCTP contracts have processed over $110 billion in cumulative volume and more than 5.3 million total cross-chain transfers as of November 2025. The Aptos integration expands the network's access to that infrastructure as Circle pushes V2 toward becoming the sole standard for native USDC movement across supported chains.
