Coinbase cuts trading fees for many active traders
Coinbase has lowered its Advanced platform fee tiers, dropping the qualifying volume threshold to $10K and letting spot and derivatives activity both count toward VIP status. USDC holdings can also unlock lower rates.
Lower Entry Bar for Advanced Fee Tiers
@coinbase has revised the fee structure on its Advanced trading platform, cutting rates for active traders and making lower tiers easier to reach. The changes took effect on September 16, 2026, the same day they were announced, with volume tiers now starting at $10,000 in qualifying volume, down from $25,000.
The new structure also consolidates fee tiers across spot and derivatives activity in eligible jurisdictions, meaning a trader's tier now reflects both types of volume combined. Previously, only spot volume counted toward tier qualification, so the change materially broadens how traders can climb the fee schedule.
Spot entry-level fees are now 0.50% maker and 0.90% taker in the US; 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker in the EU and UK; and 0.09% maker and 0.10% taker in Brazil, India, and other international markets.
USDC Holdings and VIP Access
Traders can also qualify instantly for VIP fees and benefits by holding $USDC on the platform, and Coinbase One members continue to earn an unlimited 3.5% APY on USDC. The ability to use a stablecoin balance as a VIP qualifier lowers the barrier further for traders who hold $USDC but may not consistently hit volume thresholds.
Coinbase said the changes complement what it characterised as already market-leading pricing and liquidity, with spot crypto trading as low as 0bps/2bps for VIP8 clients.
Shannon Kurtas, Senior Director of Product Management at Coinbase, said the company is focused on expanding the instruments customers can trade as it scales what it calls the "Everything Exchange" globally.
Coinbase also invited traders holding VIP status on other exchanges to fast-track their tier through its Status Match program. Customers can request 60 days of VIP status by submitting proof of 30-day trading volume through the VIP status match section of the Advanced Trade fees page.
US stock trading remains commission-free, as do Equity Perps contracts such as the US 500 Perp. In eligible international perps markets, Coinbase is introducing maker rebates of up to 0.4bps at higher VIP tiers, while Equity Perps carry promotional pricing of 0bps maker and 1bps taker.
