Kaspa nodes get a security tune-up

What Kaspa v2.1.0 Delivers

The Kaspa development team has shipped v2.1.0, a combined feature, security, and maintenance release that all node, mining, and infrastructure operators are urged to install without delay.

The headline change is the move to P2P Protocol Version 11, which introduces chunked Initial Block Download (IBD). Large sync payloads, including Pruning Point Proofs, headers, and trusted data, are now streamed in 20 MiB chunks, eliminating the message-framing bottlenecks and timeouts that could affect node synchronisation. Protocol 11 maintains full backwards compatibility with Protocol 10 peers.

Alongside the sync improvement, the release lowers the maximum allowed P2P message size from 1 GB to 256 MB and enforces wire-level transaction and block limits, including a 2 MB maximum block size, to blunt spam and denial-of-service attacks. The update also patches a security vulnerability in the Stratum bridge, the tool that allows mining pools to connect their infrastructure directly to Kaspa nodes.

Broader Security Hardening

Beyond the networking changes, v2.1.0 includes a workspace-wide arithmetic safety audit and post-Toccata consensus streamlining, as well as extraction of a standalone ZK SDK crate (kaspa-txscript-zk-sdk).

The arithmetic audit enforces clippy::arithmetic_side_effects across production crates under a formal policy documented in docs/ARITH-SAFETY.md, hardening counters, retry loops, and arithmetic operations across the node.

The release builds on the momentum of the Toccata hard fork, which activated on June 30, 2026, introducing native Layer-1 covenant systems and zero-knowledge verification. v2.1.0 consolidates the infrastructure around that upgrade and raises the security baseline ahead of further protocol development.

Operators who do not upgrade risk connectivity issues and exposure to the spam vectors the new message-size cap is designed to close. The kaspa:native release is available now on the official Kaspa GitHub repository.
