From Obscure Animation to Crypto Sensation

A low-budget animated film made by a former home decoration company went viral in China, sending its namesake BNB Chain meme coin surging more than 3,000x in three days. The token neared a $40 million market cap at its peak, according to CoinGecko.

The film, which premiered on August 5, drew widespread attention due to its rough visuals, abstract plot, and the notable fact that it earned just over 7,000 yuan at the box office in its first nine days. A relative of the director later revealed that the film was created entirely by the director and his mother, with no production team hired and all work done manually over five years. The unusual backstory amplified interest online, pulling the project into crypto circles almost immediately.

The meme coin launched on August 14, 2026, and achieved a market cap of nearly $30 million. On-chain data showed the BNB Chain-based token surged 223% within a single 24-hour period, reaching $37.5 million in trading volume. The film's producer is based in Dalian, where local cinemas pulled the film on August 16, citing concerns that its poor quality could harm the city's image. Most other cities continued regular showings, with many cinemas confirming they had not received any official notice to withdraw the film.

One Trader Turns $120 Into Over $205,000

The most striking story to emerge from the token's rise involves a single on-chain position. According to Lookonchain monitoring, a trader spent just $120 to purchase 19.1 million units of the BNB Chain meme coin, later selling 9.1 million of them for $25,900 while retaining 10 million tokens valued at approximately $180,200, yielding a combined profit of around $205,800, an 822x return. On-chain data shows the trader entered the position when the token's market cap was just $6,270. The wallet still holds more than half of the original position, meaning the majority of the profit remains unrealized.

Early buyers benefited as the token's market cap surged from just a few thousand dollars to between $18 million and $20 million, supported by strong trading activity on PancakeSwap and other decentralized exchanges. The market cap peaked at $29 million before experiencing a sharp drop.

Meme coins are highly speculative and extremely volatile assets. Always conduct your own research and never invest more than you can afford to lose.
