Ethereum Foundation Adds Cypherpunk Manifesto Author To Board

The Ethereum (@ethereum) Foundation has appointed Pascal Caversaccio (@pcaversaccio) to its board of directors, bringing the governing body back to four members after a period of leadership changes and organisational cuts.

Who Is Pascal Caversaccio?

Caversaccio, widely known by his handle "pcaversaccio," is a co-founder and lead of crypto security response group SEAL 911, and joins the Foundation as it deepens its focus on privacy and security. Beyond his technical work, he has been an outspoken advocate for user privacy and self-sovereignty, authoring the Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto in 2024 and Ethereum Privacy: The Road to Self-Sovereignty in 2025, both of which argue for stronger privacy protections across the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto is an adaptation of Eric Hughes' foundational text applied to Ethereum, which some observers believe has had "subterranean influences on the path toward CROPs." He has also served on the Ethereum Foundation's Silviculture Society, an advisory group that provides guidance on preserving Ethereum's principles of censorship resistance, open-source collaboration, privacy, and security.

Beyond governance, he has developed several open-source tools widely used by Ethereum developers, including CreateX, a framework for deterministic smart contract deployment, and snekmate, a security-focused library for Vyper smart contracts.

A Governance Signal Amid Broader Restructuring

The Foundation said Caversaccio joined for an initial one-year voluntary term. He joins President Aya Miyaguchi, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and Swiss counsel Patrick Storchenegger on the four-member board.

The board had shrunk to three in June when co-executive director Hsiao-Wei Wang resigned, effective June 18, 2026. Caversaccio's appointment is the first board expansion since that contraction. The Ethereum Foundation has also seen its other co-executive director depart, cut roughly 20% of its staff, and enacted a strategic pivot that concentrated resources into a more focused "Protocol" division.

By elevating someone who authored the Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto to the board level, the Foundation is making a governance-level statement about where privacy sits in its priority stack. Under Swiss foundation law, board members are fiduciaries of the foundation's stated purpose, meaning Caversaccio can oppose management decisions that would compromise the CROPS principles the foundation has committed to, including on privacy and security.
