Pi Network's Deadline for the Protocol 26 Upgrade is tomorrow

@PiCoreTeam has set a firm August 11 deadline for all Mainnet node operators to complete the Protocol 26 upgrade. Operators who miss the cutoff will be disconnected from the network until they comply.
A Hard Deadline, Not a Recommendation
The August 11 deadline is a hard deadline, not a recommendation. Nodes that have not completed the upgrade by this date will be at risk of disconnection from the Mainnet until the upgrade is completed. For most operators, the process is straightforward. The upgrade includes internal data migrations with less than five minutes of expected downtime for most operators. The Core Team has also advised operators not to upgrade all nodes simultaneously.
Protocol 26 is the ninth protocol upgrade completed over the past few months. The previous v25 upgrade added BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing for zero-knowledge apps. Pi's blockchain upgrade strategy has been methodical and sequential throughout 2026, advancing step-by-step through a defined upgrade path rather than making large version jumps.
The Road to Protocol 27
Protocol 26 is the second-to-last planned update before Protocol 27 completes the current development sequence. The team stated that together, the two releases will bring the Mainnet up to date with the network's latest protocol features and functionality. The exact date for Protocol 27 is not officially confirmed but is expected in the latter half of 2026.
Beyond the connectivity requirement, the upgrade carries practical improvements. It is expected to reduce unnecessary historical data stored by nodes and improve overall network efficiency, changes that matter for long-term scalability. Completing Protocol 26 is also described as an essential condition for the platform's continued progression through its Open Network phase, during which the transition to Open Network enables external connectivity on the Mainnet blockchain, allowing Pi to interface with other compliant networks and systems.
