Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Purchases..
Strategy doubles its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program to $2 billion, repurchases $176 million in $STRC, and holds steady at 845,050 $BTC as of September 7, 2026.
@Strategy has doubled the authorized capacity of its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program, lifting the ceiling from $1.0 billion to $2.0 billion. The move, confirmed on September 8, 2026, signals a more aggressive approach to managing the company's capital structure as it works to stabilize its preferred securities around par value.
$176 Million in STRC Retired
Between August 31 and September 7, 2026, Strategy repurchased 1,810,885 shares of $STRC (Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock) for an aggregate price of $176.3 million. The funds came directly from the company's USD Cash reserves rather than its broader USD Reserve. As of September 7, $1.19 billion remained available under the expanded repurchase program, with a further $1.0 billion still authorized under the separate MSTR Stock repurchase program.
The $STRC buyback activity is part of a broader Digital Credit Capital Framework Strategy introduced in June 2026, which combines a USD reserve policy, an elevated 12% STRC dividend rate, active repurchases, and a Bitcoin monetization program. The stated goal is to keep STRC trading near its $100 stated amount. Strategy has said it intends to be a more aggressive buyer at deeper discounts and to taper activity as the price approaches par.
Bitcoin Treasury Holds at 845,050 BTC
Strategy made no Bitcoin purchases or sales during the same week. Its treasury stood at exactly 845,050 $BTC as of September 7, 2026, representing roughly 4% of Bitcoin's hard-capped 21 million supply. At recent valuations, that position carries a cost basis of approximately $63.73 billion.
The pause follows a notable return to buying in late August, when the company acquired 4,603 BTC for approximately $369.7 million, ending a 10-week hiatus. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor had signaled that resumption publicly. The latest quiet week appears focused on balance-sheet management rather than accumulation, with the company deploying liquidity toward retiring debt and preferred equity instruments instead.
As of September 7, Strategy reported a USD Reserve of $5.10 billion alongside a USD Cash balance of $1.44 billion, underscoring the significant liquidity buffer the firm is maintaining across its capital stack.
