Tron's Biggest Upgrade is progressing well

Mainnet Vote Opens for GreatVoyage-v4.8.2

@Trondao has opened mainnet voting for Committee Proposal No. 107, which would formally activate the GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 upgrade, codenamed Pyrrho, across the $TRX network. If the proposal passes, updated network parameters will go live on August 28 at 14:00 SGT.

The release was flagged as a mandatory upgrade, with node operators required to update to v4.8.2 or v4.8.2.1 by August 16 at 23:59 SGT to avoid falling out of sync with the network. The August 25 governance vote follows TRON's established two-step process: software upgrade first, on-chain activation second. TRON's 27 Super Representatives, elected by TRX holders through a staking-and-voting process, are responsible for approving the parameter changes that would switch on the new features.

Ethereum Compatibility at the Core

The headline technical changes center on aligning TRON's Virtual Machine (TVM) with Ethereum's Prague and Osaka upgrade roadmaps. Two specific features are on the ballot. The first is support for historical block hash lookups (EIP-2935), which stores up to 8,192 historical block hashes in a system contract, providing extended history for stateless clients and smart contracts that need to reference older on-chain data.

The second is the CLZ (Count Leading Zeros) opcode, drawn from Ethereum's Osaka roadmap. The CLZ instruction returns the number of leading zero bits in a 256-bit value, collapsing hand-rolled bit scans into a single, low-cost step and reducing gas costs for arithmetic-heavy smart contracts. CLZ is a native instruction in most modern processor architectures, and its absence from the EVM has long required developers to work around the gap with costlier alternatives.

Aligning the TVM with Ethereum's latest upgrades positions TRON to keep pace with the broader EVM ecosystem while giving developers a clearer path for cross-chain compatibility. TRON hosts a substantial share of global stablecoin activity, meaning protocol upgrades of this kind carry meaningful operational weight for the wallets, exchanges, and indexers that depend on the network.
