Algorand's x402 payments pass 1M settlements through the GoPlausible facilitator
The Algorand Foundation reports its x402 mainnet payment service has surpassed 2.02 million transactions and $295,500 in volume across 1,097 unique payers, with GoPlausible acting as the settlement facilitator.
Algorand's x402 payment service has crossed a significant milestone, with the @AlgoFoundation reporting that its mainnet operation has now processed 2.02 million transactions totalling $295,500 in volume from 1,097 unique payers. The figures average out to roughly $0.29 per payment, with each payer settling approximately 920 times.
The GoPlausible facilitator, which handles verification and settlement for the network, lists 144 merchants and 142 providers currently operating on Algorand-native rails.
What x402 actually does
x402 is an open payments standard built on a long-dormant HTTP status code. It revives the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code and turns it into a working payment flow: a server responds with "payment required," the client pays over blockchain rails, and the request completes in a single round trip. That makes it a natural fit for the agentic era, since AI agents can pay per API call, unlock premium data on demand, and settle machine-to-machine transactions without a human in the loop.
Traditional banking rails lack the speed and programmability required for granular, high-frequency micropayments. Using a blockchain like Algorand, x402 bridges the gap by providing a reliable and transparent settlement layer with cost efficiency, making fractional-cent transactions viable through minimal network fees.
GoPlausible's role in the ecosystem
A facilitator is the infrastructure that verifies and settles x402 payments. GoPlausible's facilitator handles that across six networks behind a single endpoint, covering Algorand, Base, and Solana on both mainnet and testnet. It offers native AVM support, ASA assets, and roughly three-second finality, and is fine-tuned to settle USDC on all three chains.
The x402 protocol has been extended through collaboration between the Algorand Foundation and GoPlausible to support the Algorand Virtual Machine (AVM), enabling payment verification and settlement on Algorand networks across both mainnet and testnet.
The milestone arrives as Algorand's Global x402 Challenge remains active. The competition has $100,000 USD plus 500,000 ALGO in prizes on the line, requiring participants to launch a paid API endpoint on Algorand MainNet and drive real usage through the GoPlausible x402 Facilitator. Ten finalists will be selected to present live at Devcon 8 in India.
