BabyDoge acquires LimeWire as founders Julian and Paul Zehetmayr hand over control
The BabyDoge memecoin ecosystem has acquired LimeWire from founders Julian and Paul Zehetmayr, with Abel Czupor taking over leadership. The LMWR token remains the platform's native utility token for decentralized storage and AI tools.
The @BabyDoge memecoin ecosystem has acquired @limewire under undisclosed financial terms, placing Abel Czupor (@AbelCzupor) in charge of the platform. The deal, announced on September 14, marks the exit of founders Julian and Paul Zehetmayr, who spent the past five years rebuilding LimeWire after relaunching the iconic brand in 2022.
A New Owner, But Not a Corporate Takeover
Czupor has framed BabyDoge's role not as a conventional corporate parent but as a "DAO-style backer" of LimeWire's continued independence. BabyDoge will provide infrastructure and community support as the platform moves into what both parties are calling its next phase. No financial terms were disclosed.
The scale of the combined audience is notable. LimeWire claims roughly 8 million monthly users, while BabyDoge's community numbers more than 3 million. BabyDoge itself once carried a market cap above $1 billion and holds a Guinness World Record for animal-charity giving.
LMWR Stays as the Platform's Native Token
One significant detail: BabyDoge is not replacing $LMWR with its own token. LimeWire confirmed that $LMWR remains the platform's native utility token, covering payments for decentralized file storage and access to AI tools. Under new leadership, LimeWire plans to focus on creator ownership, decentralized storage infrastructure, and AI-powered content workflows.
An updated product roadmap for the LimeWire Network is expected in the coming weeks. The token picture, however, is mixed. $LMWR has fallen 19.4% over the past week and is down 64.3% since the start of 2026, while BABYDOGE is down 11.2% on the week and 42.7% year to date.
