Circle's Arc blockchain (@arc) made a striking debut on September 16, but not quite in the way its institutional backers might have envisioned. The mainnet recorded $410.8 million in DEX volume and 7.76 million transactions on day one, with roughly 82% of that volume driven by memecoin launchpads.

Memecoins Dominate Day One

Circle built Arc for financial markets, real-time money movement, and agentic economic activity. Instead, speculative traders set the tone on the first day. Memecoin launchpads accounted for $336.3 million of that trading, or roughly 82%.

Arguspad alone handled $202.35 million and minted 83,751 of 97,025 new tokens. Minara.fun followed with $36.41 million and Tollylabs with $19.65 million. Meanwhile, non-launchpad DEXs, including Redardex, recorded $13.11 million, with all other non-launchpad DEX activity totalling $74.6 million combined.

Arguspad's single-day token launch figure surpassed pump.fun's best day on record. The scale of activity is also notable in context: Robinhood Chain recorded just $568,630 in DEX volume on its own first mainnet day and did not clear Arc's day-one number until over a week later, when it printed $581.12 million. Arc's debut landed around 720 times larger.

An Institutional Chain With a Speculative Start

Circle built Arc as an open Layer 1 network aimed at financial markets, real-time money movement and automated economic activity. Its founding validator set includes BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, DTCC and ICE. Asset managers including Bitwise, BlackRock and Janus Henderson have plans to move tokenized funds onto the chain, and payment firms Visa and MoneyGram plan to use it for stablecoin settlement.

Part of the strong opening figures can be attributed to timing. Arc launched with Aave, Morpho and Uniswap already deployed, plus exchange access from Binance, Kraken, OKX and others live at block one. The launchpads walked into a chain that already had liquidity sitting there.

The episode echoes the experience of Robinhood Chain, another blockchain pitched around institutional financial applications that saw memecoin trading dominate early activity. Whether Arc's institutional ambitions take hold as the initial speculative wave recedes remains the key question for its backers and ecosystem partners.
