Coinbase named Ansem as the first trader in its live perps trading tournament
Coinbase Champions is bringing 10 traders to a Singapore nightclub on October 8 for a live perpetuals trading tournament with $150,000 on the line, with Ansem confirmed as the first participant ahead of Token2049.
@coinbase is taking live trading off the charts and onto the nightclub floor. The exchange has unveiled Coinbase Champions, a live perpetuals trading tournament set for October 8 in Singapore, running alongside Token2049, widely regarded as one of the largest gatherings in the crypto industry.
Ansem Headlines the Lineup
The first name confirmed for the competition is Ansem (@blknoiz06), one of the most closely followed traders in the crypto space. Ansem is the trader Zion Thomas, who earned the "Memecoin King" label through an early Solana bet and a run of viral memecoin calls. Early positions in Dogwifhat (WIF) and Bonk (BONK) returned the multiples that turned him into a cult figure, and CoinDesk named him one of its Most Influential people in crypto for 2024. Alongside Ansem, the event page has also listed traders Jez, Intern, and HDF, with the full roster of 10 competitors yet to be completed.
The format is straightforward: 10 traders, one venue, $150,000 on the line, and one winner. Doors open at 7:30 pm local time, with trading beginning at 8:30 pm. The event will be streamed globally on X, giving the broader crypto community a front-row seat. Taiki Maeda of Steady Labs will host proceedings on the night.
A Token2049 Centerpiece
Token2049 returns to Marina Bay Sands on October 7 and 8, 2026, with this fifth edition shaping up to be the most ambitious yet. The 2025 edition sold out with over 25,000 attendees from more than 160 countries, 500 exhibitors, and 400 speakers gathered across all five floors of the venue. Coinbase Champions is positioning itself as one of the standout side events of that week. @coinbase has also teased that its 10 pm afterparty following the competition will be the highlight of the Token2049 social calendar.
The tournament reflects a broader trend of crypto exchanges moving beyond product launches to create live, entertainment-driven experiences that blend trading with community engagement. Putting real capital and well-known traders in a room together, streamed to a global audience, raises the stakes in a way that a standard leaderboard competition cannot.
Further competitor announcements are expected ahead of the October 8 date.
