Whale Moves $408M in ETH Toward Exchanges

A mysterious Ethereum whale is in the process of moving 167,855 $ETH, worth approximately $408 million, toward centralized exchanges, raising fresh concerns about potential selling pressure in the market. On-chain analytics platform Lookonchain flagged the activity, revealing that the wallet has already deposited 70,739 ETH, valued at roughly $174 million, across multiple exchanges over the past two days.

The remaining 97,115 ETH, currently worth around $237 million, is still sitting in the whale's wallet. Markets are now watching closely to see whether those coins also make their way to exchanges, which would significantly increase the scale of the potential sell event.

Why Exchange Inflows Matter

When large holders move assets to centralized exchanges, it is widely read as a preparation to sell. Transfers to centralized exchanges are often seen as a signal that assets may soon enter the market, as traders move funds to access liquidity. While it remains unclear whether the ETH will be sold immediately, the scale and speed of such transfers can boost short-term supply and weigh on prices if selling follows.

This episode is not the first time Lookonchain has caught large-scale ETH flows headed toward exchanges. In a separate incident tracked by Lookonchain, one holder moved an entire 577,896 ETH position to Binance over four days. At the time, the deposits coincided with institutional outflows and exchange inflow spikes that pushed Binance's ETH holdings to nearly a quarter of the centralized supply.

The timing of the current whale movement adds an element of uncertainty to a market that has seen significant institutional activity in recent weeks. U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs posted a combined net inflow of $2.6 billion in the most recent week tracked, the highest level since October 2025, with spot Ethereum ETFs pulling in $697.2 million of that total. A large, sudden influx of ETH supply from a single whale could test the market's ability to absorb that pressure without a meaningful price impact.

For now, the identity of the whale remains unknown and their ultimate intention is unclear. Traders and analysts will be watching on-chain data closely for any signs that the remaining $237 million in ETH is beginning to move.
