Staked $DOT on @Polkadot has surpassed 900 million tokens, putting the network within striking distance of a 1 billion milestone that would represent a significant vote of confidence from token holders in the network's long-term security model.

Where Staking Stands Right Now

The current staking reward rate on Polkadot sits at an average of approximately 2.8%, reflecting the network's shift toward a more conservative emissions model. Data from Staking Rewards puts the live annualised yield at around 2.77% APY. The staking ratio, meaning the share of eligible tokens currently being staked, stands at roughly 51.97%, with approximately 882.9 million $DOT staked and a staking market cap of around $659.5 million.

Polkadot operates on a Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) system. Staked tokens retain full voting power in Polkadot's OpenGov, a decentralised governance system where holders can vote on major decisions including future upgrades and treasury spending. Participation is accessible through nomination pools, which require a minimum of around 1 $DOT, or through direct nomination, which carries a higher minimum active stake requirement.

A Network Reshaped by Its March Tokenomics Overhaul

The staking milestone comes several months after a landmark change to Polkadot's economic model. On March 14, 2026, Polkadot capped its total supply at 2.1 billion $DOT, cutting annual emissions by 53.6% and replacing an unlimited issuance model that had previously minted 120 million $DOT per year. The inflation rate dropped from the 7 to 10 percent range to approximately 3% in a single day.

The reform directly reduces sell pressure from staking rewards and positions $DOT as a structurally scarcer asset. Staking mechanics were also overhauled, with nominators losing their slashing risk and the unbonding period compressing from 28 days to just 24 to 48 hours. That compression removes one of the most cited friction points for retail stakers and could attract more capital to the validator set as the network approaches the 1 billion staked $DOT mark.
