Shiba Inu's daily burn activity has cooled sharply, with data from Shibburn showing that $SHIB tokens destroyed in the past 24 hours have fallen by nearly 93% compared to the prior session.

Weekly Picture Tells a Different Story

Despite the steep daily decline, the broader weekly trend remains positive. The seven-day burn total has risen by 76.73%, with close to 150 million SHIB tokens permanently removed from circulation over that period. The contrast between the daily and weekly figures highlights how volatile burn activity can be from one session to the next, making short-term snapshots an unreliable guide to the overall deflationary trend.

Token burns work by sending SHIB to inaccessible blockchain addresses, commonly called dead wallets, from which the tokens can never be recovered or returned to circulation. Shibburn tracks these transactions and aggregates them into the daily, weekly, and monthly figures that the community follows closely.

Lifetime Burns Cross 41% of Original Supply

Zooming out further, cumulative burns now account for roughly 41% of Shiba Inu's original total supply of 1 quadrillion tokens. A total of 410,843,579,789,609 SHIB has been burned through more than 21,000 transactions, according to Shibburn, representing 41.08% of the initial 1 quadrillion SHIB token supply. That figure leaves approximately 589 trillion SHIB still in circulation.

Much of the all-time burn total traces back to a single landmark event. The concept of burning SHIB tokens gained significant momentum after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who had unexpectedly received half of the token's total supply as a gift from the token's creator, decided to burn 41% of all SHIB tokens in June 2021. Community-led burns and ecosystem mechanisms have continued to chip away at supply in the years since.

Analysts note that investors should not view burn statistics in isolation. A higher burn rate can be positive for long-term supply management, but it does not necessarily create an immediate catalyst for price appreciation. For now, the daily cooldown is a reminder that burn activity remains highly irregular, even when the weekly trajectory points upward.
