Zodl Rolls Out Major Wallet Update For Zcash Users
Zodl, the native Zcash wallet from Zcash Open Development Lab, has released new iOS and Android updates improving coinholder polling, Keystone hardware wallet signing, and ZEC balance sweeping from Orchard.
Zodl, the self-custodial Zcash wallet developed by Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), has pushed a fresh round of updates to both its iOS and Android apps, targeting reliability improvements across coinholder polling, Keystone hardware wallet signing, and residual balance management.
What Changed on iOS
The latest iOS release addresses several areas that affected users who participate in Zcash governance. The update improved the speed and reliability of submitting votes, including fewer network errors and a fallback for when a server has issues. The team also resolved a Keystone hardware wallet signing bug that could hit an action-count limit during larger signing rounds.
For users navigating the transition to Zcash's Ironwood network upgrade, the iOS release adds useful housekeeping tools. A home screen banner and follow-up screen were added for small amounts of $ZEC that can be left in Orchard after migrating to Ironwood, giving users the option to lock or move those funds. The update also improved performance on the Receive screen while the wallet is syncing.
Android Improvements and User Guidance
The Android release followed a similar direction, with comparable polling reliability fixes and changes to prevent failed submission issues. Zodl is urging affected users to update their wallets before submitting any further polling responses.
The updates come as Zodl continues to build out its position as the flagship $ZEC wallet. Zodl is a self-custodial mobile wallet, previously known as Zashi, that lets users hold ZEC and send shielded transactions, which hide sender, receiver, and transaction amount using zero-knowledge cryptography. Keystone is the first hardware wallet to support shielded ZEC, with the air-gapped device giving Zcash users an extra layer of security. Users connect it to Zodl to manage funds through the app and use the hardware device to sign outgoing transactions.
ZODL itself was formed by the former core team of the Electric Coin Company (ECC) after the entire ECC engineering and product team resigned in January 2026 following a governance dispute. The lab has since raised more than $25 million in seed funding, with backing from Paradigm, a16z crypto, Winklevoss Capital, Coinbase Ventures, and several other prominent investors.
