The Canary HBAR ETF, trading under the ticker HBR, became the first U.S. spot exchange-traded fund holding HBAR when it launched on Nasdaq on October 28, 2025. Nearly a year later, its buyer base includes institutional asset managers, ETF-focused retail investors, and long-term Hedera holders who want regulated exposure without managing a crypto wallet.
What Is the Canary HBAR ETF?
HBR holds actual HBAR tokens, not derivatives or futures contracts, with custody handled by regulated third parties. That structure lets investors buy or sell shares through a standard brokerage account while the fund tracks HBAR's spot price. As of Aug. 14, 2026, the fund held about 704.35 million HBAR, worth roughly $46.29 million in net assets, equal to about 1.5% of HBAR's circulating supply.
Hedera is a public distributed ledger that uses a consensus method called hashgraph rather than a traditional blockchain. Its governing council includes Google, IBM, Dell, LG, and Standard Bank, giving the network a corporate governance structure that differs from most proof-of-stake chains.
Who Is Buying HBAR Through the ETF?
Buyers fall into a few distinct groups.
Institutional Asset Managers
The SEC approved T. Rowe Price's actively managed Active Crypto ETF (ticker TKNZ) on June 12 and 13, 2026. HBAR is one of 15 large-cap cryptocurrencies eligible for the fund, which rotates between five and fifteen holdings using quantitative models rather than tracking HBAR permanently. T. Rowe Price manages roughly $1.8 trillion in assets, so its willingness to include HBAR in the eligible universe is a due-diligence signal, even though it doesn't guarantee an ongoing position.
Separately, in November 2025, Archax, a UK and EU-regulated digital asset platform, tokenized HBR ETF shares directly on the Hedera network and settled an out-of-hours trade, an early demonstration that the network can host trading of a fund built on top of it, though it didn't change how everyday Nasdaq investors trade HBR shares.
Long-Term Holders
Market data shows accumulation shifting from short-term retail trading toward larger positions held over longer periods. Daily ETF flows have been uneven: Canary's fund logged a $462,000 net inflow on Aug. 10, 2026, and has recorded only one day of net outflows since launch, but flows turned close to flat again in August.
Why Are Investors Buying HBAR Right Now?
A few overlapping factors are shaping current demand:
- Enterprise tokenization activity. Hedera's mainnet integrated with ioBuilders' Asseto Access platform in early August 2026, giving institutions a unified workflow for corporate token issuance. Five Spanish banks separately completed a tokenized deposit pilot on the same Asseto infrastructure on August 11, though that pilot can also run on private rails and isn't a direct HBAR demand event by itself.
- Established European access points. 21Shares' physically backed Hedera ETP (ticker HDRA) has traded on Euronext Amsterdam and Paris since June 2025, and Valour's Frankfurt-listed product has been available since mid-2024. Both predate the Nasdaq listing but continue to widen HBAR's regulated access outside the U.S.
- Possible future regulatory clarity. The CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill, remains stalled in the Senate. It missed an August 10 recess deadline after a cloture motion was filed August 8, and lawmakers aren't expected to revisit it until the Senate returns September 14, 2026. Passage would apply to HBAR alongside other large-cap tokens, but it is not yet law.
How Has HBAR's Price Reacted?
HBAR has traded in a narrow range through most of 2026. As of mid-August, the token sits near $0.065 to $0.066, with a market capitalization around $2.87 billion and daily trading volume between $16 million and $23 million depending on the exchange. That price is roughly 88% below HBAR's all-time high of $0.5692, set in September 2021. Technical analysts have flagged $0.065 as key support, with resistance building near $0.069 to $0.072 after a double-bottom pattern formed in late July and early August.
What Risks Remain for HBAR's ETF Story?
Not every institutional signal has been positive. Grayscale withdrew its own spot Hedera ETF registration on August 7, 2026, part of a broader retreat from three altcoin ETF filings, citing limited commercial prospects compared with Bitcoin and Ethereum products. ETF inflows into HBAR products have also turned close to flat in August, and the CLARITY Act's stalled status means the regulatory clarity some investors are positioning for hasn't arrived yet.

Together, these suggest the infrastructure for institutional access now exists, but sustained buying pressure at scale hasn't followed.
Conclusion
HBR gave HBAR its first regulated, U.S.-listed spot ETF, and its holders now range from asset managers exploring HBAR through eligible-asset baskets like T. Rowe Price's TKNZ fund to long-term Hedera wallet holders seeking brokerage-account access.
Inflows remain modest and price action has stayed range-bound near $0.065, and pending catalysts like the CLARITY Act haven't resolved yet. Even so, HBR, alongside longer-standing European ETPs from 21Shares and Valour, has created several regulated paths into HBAR that didn't exist before October 2025.
