Grayscale Pushes Litecoin Trust Toward ETF
Grayscale Investments has filed an amended SEC registration statement to convert its Litecoin Trust into a spot ETF trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker $LTCN, with Bloomberg analysts placing approval odds near 100%.
Grayscale Files to Convert Litecoin Trust Into Spot ETF
Grayscale Investments has filed an amended registration statement with the SEC seeking to convert its Litecoin Trust into a spot exchange-traded fund. The filing, submitted on September 11, 2026, would see the fund trade on NYSE Arca under the ticker $LTCN. If the conversion is approved, Grayscale intends to rename the product the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF.
The Grayscale Litecoin Trust has been trading over-the-counter under the ticker $LTCN since its establishment in January 2018. The trust structure has historically caused shares to trade at significant premiums or discounts relative to the underlying Litecoin value. Converting to a full ETF structure would introduce standard creation and redemption mechanisms, meaning the share price could finally track the actual value of the Litecoin it holds.
As of June 30, 2026, the trust held approximately 24.25 million shares outstanding, with a net asset value of $82.28 million.
Bloomberg Analysts Put Approval Odds Near 100%
Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart have pegged the approval odds near 100%, pointing to the SEC's newer generic listing standards that strip much of the discretion out of the decision-making process. The SEC approved those new generic listing standards on an accelerated basis, saying it had "good cause" to act early, cutting potential review timelines for new submissions from 240 days to as little as 75.
If approved, the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF would let investors access Litecoin through established brokerage accounts, making it easier for traditional investors to engage with the cryptocurrency market without managing LTC wallets directly.
Grayscale would not be the first mover in this space. Canary Capital launched the first U.S. spot Litecoin ETF on Nasdaq under the ticker LTCC on October 28, 2025, though the debut was notably quiet. That fund has seen thin demand, with roughly $7 million in assets. The Grayscale filing matters most as a signal that the single-asset ETF door is opening wider.
