Metaplanet Takes Control of Nasdaq-Listed Super League

@Metaplanet, Japan's largest corporate $BTC holder, is expanding into the United States. The Tokyo-listed firm has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a controlling stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise (Nasdaq: SLE), which will be renamed Superplanet, Inc. and serve as the group's dedicated U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform.

As part of the deal, Metaplanet will contribute 2,100 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $132.1 million, together with $2.5 million in cash, to Super League in exchange for newly issued shares, preferred stock, and warrants. Upon closing, Metaplanet will hold approximately 95.7% of Superplanet's issued and outstanding common stock, creating a Bitcoin treasury platform spanning both the Nasdaq Capital Market and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

CEO Simon Gerovich (@gerovich) confirmed the move, saying the company will contribute 2,100 BTC from its treasury and consolidate Superplanet as the U.S. arm of the group. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions including approval by Super League's stockholders and required filings with Nasdaq and applicable regulators in the U.S. and Japan.

A Dual-Engine Capital Model

The result is a consolidated group with two listed Bitcoin treasury platforms, one in Japan and one in the U.S., each with its own investor base and its own currency, compounding a single group-level Bitcoin position. The structure gives Metaplanet the ability to raise capital in both markets to fund the same underlying $BTC treasury, a model that broadens its financing options considerably.

Metaplanet has modeled itself as Asia's answer to MicroStrategy, the Michael Saylor-led company that pioneered the corporate Bitcoin treasury strategy. Its holdings have grown from roughly 1,762 BTC at the end of 2024 to 35,102 BTC by the close of 2025, with its long-term roadmap targeting 100,000 BTC by end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by end of 2027. As of today, Metaplanet is described as the world's third-largest corporate Bitcoin holder, with 43,000 BTC.

The Superplanet deal is not the firm's only recent move to extend its reach. In June, Metaplanet announced it was acquiring Siiibo Securities, a licensed Type I securities firm and major player in Japan's online corporate bond market, for 2.1 billion yen ($13 million), with plans to develop Bitcoin-linked yield products for Japanese investors. Together, the two deals point to a company building out both the capital markets infrastructure and the geographic footprint needed to sustain aggressive $BTC accumulation at scale.
