Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) has introduced a major interface upgrade for its DEX and AMM features within the Pi Wallet Testnet, sharpening the user experience ahead of a potential full mainnet launch. The move coincides with the network's transition to Protocol 27, which began rolling out to Testnet 1 on August 21, with a Mainnet target date of September 15, 2026.

Protocol 27: The Final Step Before DEX Goes Live

Following the successful completion of the Protocol 26 upgrade on Pi Mainnet, the Testnet is now running Protocol 27. The upgrade introduces more flexible and secure smart-contract authentication, giving accounts and applications additional ways to authorize transactions. Protocol 27 is also expected to prepare network infrastructure for RPC servers, decentralized exchange functions, and AMM liquidity pools, components that support network connections, trading activity, and liquidity.

The planned rollout runs from Testnet 1 to Testnet 2 before hitting Mainnet, with September 15 listed as the current target date. The Core Team has described Protocol 27 as the final planned upgrade in the current sequence. Notably, the roadmap has already been extended to include Protocol 28.0, signaling that development remains active well beyond the current upgrade cycle.

A DEX Built for Mass Adoption

The new DEX interface redesign is not purely cosmetic. The Pi Network DEX represents a shift for the ecosystem, moving it from a mobile-mining phase toward a functional decentralized finance environment. As a native AMM, the DEX allows users to swap $PI for other ecosystem tokens directly within the Pi Browser, with the Core Team prioritizing utility over speculation and aiming to provide a safe entry point for non-technical users.

To support a healthy exchange environment at launch, the Pi Launchpad is being used to create a pipeline of tokens with substantive utility and liquidity. This structure is designed to prevent the DEX from being flooded by speculative tokens at launch, a common vulnerability on new decentralized exchanges.

The network backing the upgrade is substantial. Pi operates across 420,000 active nodes and has grown to tens of millions of engaged users worldwide since its 2019 launch, built on mobile-based mining that requires no energy-intensive hardware.

With Protocol 27 now in testing and a September 15 Mainnet deadline approaching, the question for the community is straightforward: is this the last upgrade before the DEX goes live on mainnet?
