DOT touches $1.24 while most of the market sits flat
Polkadot's $DOT token climbed as high as $1.24 on Tuesday, posting a 12.5% gain in 24 hours and 42% over the week, even as the broader crypto market held largely flat. Trading volume hit $377.63M, signalling genuine turnover behind the move.
@Polkadot's $DOT token pushed as high as $1.24 on Tuesday before settling near $1.23, a 12.5% gain over 24 hours and a 42% rise over the past seven days. The move stands out because the broader crypto market barely shifted over the same period, making $DOT one of the clearer performers of the session.
Volume Confirms the Move
Trading volume reached $377.63M over the 24-hour window, up 14% from the prior day. That figure represents roughly 18% of $DOT's $2.09 billion market cap, a notably high turnover ratio for a token sitting at rank 39 by market capitalisation. A volume-to-market-cap ratio at that level typically suggests the price action is driven by genuine trading activity rather than a thin-market drift.
Earlier in the session, $DOT had already surged 7.18% in 30 minutes, reaching $1.179 , before extending further gains through the day. The token recorded a 19% price appreciation within 24 hours, moving in tandem with a 150% expansion in daily transaction volume.
Broader Context: Tokenomics and Network Activity
The September rally did not come out of nowhere. A short squeeze on September 5 liquidated $610,000, with short positions absorbing most of the damage. That event provided early momentum, and the network has continued to attract attention since.
Polkadot processed nearly 5,000 transactions in a single hour on September 2, with throughput up almost 150%, according to Chainspect, largely attributed to the Polkadot Products Devnet, a public testnet the Polkadot Community Foundation launched in July via Paseo.
On the structural side, in March 2026, Polkadot set a hard supply cap of 2.1 billion DOT and halved annual token issuance , a shift that removed one of the persistent criticisms institutional investors had levelled at the asset. On March 6, 2026, asset management firm 21Shares launched TDOT on Nasdaq, becoming the first US exchange-traded fund for Polkadot, with the portfolio consisting of real DOT tokens and Coinbase acting as custodian.
Polkadot's broader development roadmap includes Polkadot 2.0, Agile Coretime, Elastic Scaling and the longer-term JAM transition, designed to make the network's infrastructure more flexible and scalable. Agile Coretime, in particular, replaced the earlier long-duration parachain slot model with a more flexible approach to accessing blockspace.
Whether Tuesday's move marks the start of a sustained breakout or a short-term spike remains to be seen. But the combination of heavy turnover, rising network activity, and tightening tokenomics gives $DOT traders more to work with than a simple price chart.
