Quant's Fusion Rollup turns seven copies of USDC into one asset

Quant Network's Fusion Rollup, live on mainnet since June 2, collapses fragmented USDC copies across seven blockchains into a single canonical asset called uUSDC, connecting 74 networks in one institutional execution environment.

A single dollar stablecoin like $USDC does not actually exist as one thing. The same dollar stablecoin exists as a separate, incompatible token on Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and beyond, forcing institutions to track chain-specific variants, split liquidity across networks, and wrap or bridge assets just to move value between them. For large financial institutions operating across multiple chains, that means managing seven balances where one would suffice.

The problem is structural. Transferring stablecoins across chains requires the use of bridges, which introduce risks, costs, and delays, and this lack of interoperability fragments liquidity and undermines the network effects of a single payment instrument. A Bank for International Settlements working paper noted that a USDC token on Ethereum is not the same as a USDC token on Solana, as they exist on separate ledgers that have no native way of communicating with each other.

One Asset, One Pool

Quant Network turned on the Fusion Rollup mainnet on June 2, 2026, exactly ten years after founder Gilbert Verdian started the company. Verdian described it as the first multi-ledger rollup ever shipped to production. The system is designed to connect 74 blockchain networks within a single execution environment, addressing a longstanding challenge faced by financial institutions that operate across multiple distributed ledger ecosystems.

The core mechanism is what @quantnetwork calls a unified asset model. The same token existing on multiple chains is represented as a single canonical asset within the rollup, one multi-ledger asset, one unified pool of liquidity, regardless of which chain it came from. Each asset retains its native chain anchoring and can be withdrawn back to its original chain at any time. Fusion collapses those seven copies of $USDC into a single canonical instrument the firm calls uUSDC. Similarly, BlackRock's BUIDL tokenized fund becomes uBUIDL inside the rollup.

A Layer 2.5 Built for Institutions

Quant describes the architecture as a Layer 2.5, because unlike a conventional Layer 2, the system utilizes an optimistic rollup architecture derived from the OP Stack while storing transaction data on a permissioned Hyperledger Besu network, with state roots transmitted back to connected Layer 1 networks, allowing institutions to move assets, settle transactions, and exchange messages across different blockchains through a unified framework.

By removing the need for blockchain bridges and wrapped assets, the platform aims to reduce security risks that have historically contributed to significant losses within the digital asset sector. The $QNT token sits at the center of access, staking, and settlement on the network, with enterprises needing QNT to operate Fusion nodes, process transactions, and license institutional features.
