XRP Leverage is Back at January Levels
XRP's estimated leverage ratio on Binance has climbed to approximately 0.213, its highest point since January, according to CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain. Here is what it means for traders.
Leverage Builds as XRP Rallies
$XRP's estimated leverage ratio on Binance has climbed to approximately 0.213, according to CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain. That is the token's highest reading since January, signalling that derivatives traders are taking on meaningfully larger positions with borrowed capital.
The metric measures derivatives open interest relative to exchange reserves. Higher readings indicate that more market exposure is being built on leveraged capital rather than spot holdings. XRP spent most of 2026 with its leverage ratio at relatively subdued levels, making this latest move a notable shift in market positioning.
The jump coincides with a sharp rally in XRP. Futures volume reached roughly $6.4 billion over a recent 24-hour period, more than five times the approximately $1.2 billion traded on spot markets in the same window. On Binance, long positions outnumbered shorts by roughly two to one, with the ratio among top traders running closer to three to one.
A Double-Edged Signal for Traders
The surge in leverage carries risks in both directions. Arab Chain noted that if higher leverage is accompanied by rising prices and open interest, it can reflect growing trader confidence and fresh position-building. However, elevated leverage also makes the market more vulnerable to sharp moves.
When the leverage ratio is high, a sudden price move in either direction can trigger a wave of forced liquidations across both long and short positions. XRP is currently trading around $1.46, down nearly 3% over the past 24 hours, with open interest standing at roughly $3.62 billion, of which Binance accounts for approximately $2 billion.
History adds context. The last time the estimated leverage ratio sat at these levels, in January, XRP was trading above $2. That precedent underlines the sensitivity of the current setup. A sustained price decline from here could force heavily leveraged long positions to unwind quickly, amplifying any sell-off.
