Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) is building out a comprehensive decentralized finance infrastructure on its testnet, offering its community of Pioneers a live environment to experiment with token swaps, liquidity pools, and automated market maker (AMM) mechanics, all directly inside the Pi Wallet.

DEX and AMM Go Live on Testnet

The network has introduced a native swap interface and real-time market data for test tokens, allowing users to engage with DeFi mechanics without touching real assets. The Pi Wallet already surfaces DEX and AMM options, redirecting users to the testnet setup for hands-on experimentation.

The pilot rollout centers on the $SLICE token, which carries a test market capitalization of 27.75M Test-Pi across a circulating supply of 1.16 billion units. $SLICE is tied to Slice of Pi, a working third-party game, giving the Pi Core Team a live application through which to study engagement mechanics. The team has confirmed that SLICE will remain on the testnet and will never transfer to mainnet.

The SLICE launch tested the full Launchpad lifecycle: token issuance, AMM pool creation, liquidity bootstrapping, and real-time price discovery through swaps. The AMM uses a constant-product formula, so as one asset enters the pool the other exits, adjusting the displayed price in real time. Pioneers could track the effect through a price chart in the Launchpad interface.

Pi Launchpad tested the combined order book and AMM exchange on testnet during the SLICE token launch from June 11 to 28, with 242,000 Pioneers committing 15.92 million Test-Pi. Early liquidity providers on the DEX are set to earn a 0.3% share of trading fees from each swap.

Protocol 27 Targets September 15 Mainnet Deployment

Pi Network completed its Protocol 26 mainnet upgrade by August 11, 2026, hardening contract security, state management, and cryptographic capabilities across 421,000 active nodes. Protocol 27, currently on testnet, adds smart contract authentication, RPC server infrastructure, and an AMM liquidity pool, with the Pi Core Team targeting September 15 for mainnet deployment.

The testnet rollout is widely seen as a staging ground for that transition. Developers on the network can already mint test tokens directly on the testnet, though mainnet token creation will remain restricted until formal guidelines are published. The broader infrastructure push comes as $PI continues to trade well below its February 2025 all-time high, with supply pressure from scheduled token unlocks weighing on the price.
