@Binance has executed its latest monthly Terra Luna Classic ($LUNC) burn, permanently removing 334,879,422 tokens from circulation. The burn covers trading fees collected on the exchange during August 2026 and brings Binance's running total to 87.7 billion LUNC destroyed to date.

A Consistent Commitment to Deflation

The move is part of Binance's standing policy of burning a portion of LUNC spot and margin trading fees each month, a programme the exchange has maintained since late 2022. The prior cycle, completed on August 1, 2026, saw Binance permanently remove approximately 275.6 million LUNC, representing 50% of trading fees generated from LUNC-linked pairs during July. The September burn of 334.8 million tokens reflects a month-on-month increase in fee volume, pointing to firmer trading activity in August.

Major exchanges, notably Binance, supplement the on-chain burn tax with monthly burn programmes funded by trading fees. As of August 1, 2026, Binance had cumulatively burned 87.43 billion LUNC, according to CoinMarketCap. The September contribution pushes that figure to 87.7 billion, closing in on the 90 billion mark.

Supply Reduction in Context

While the monthly burns are a visible signal of Binance's support for the Terra Classic deflationary roadmap, analysts caution that the pace of reduction remains slow relative to the overall supply. With a circulating supply of 5.52 trillion tokens, the current burn rate reduces supply by only about 0.6% annually, meaning sustained high transaction volume is critical for meaningful impact.

The exchange burns run alongside the Terra Classic community's own on-chain mechanism. On August 2, 2026, the community raised the on-chain transaction burn tax to 1.5% through governance proposal #12223, the biggest change to LUNC's tokenomics in over a year. That rate splits as 1.2% permanently burned, 0.15% to the Community Pool, and 0.15% to the Oracle Pool.

Combining the on-chain tax, Terraform Labs' original burns, and exchange contributions, independent trackers put total LUNC burned since the mechanism began in May 2022 at more than 452 billion tokens. Despite that progress, price spikes of 5 to 15% often follow burn announcements but typically fade within weeks, as the sheer scale of the supply dilutes the impact. Sustained, order-of-magnitude higher burn rates or a major exchange expanding its programme would be needed to materially alter the supply-demand balance.
